Pirjo Honkasalo

Award-winning director Pirjo Honkasalo (b. 1947) has had a long career in film. Of her fiction films, Concrete Night won six Jussi awards, while Fire-Eater won eight. In 2020, she received the honorary title of Art Academic. In 2021, she was awarded with a Betoni-Jussi for her life work.

The DocPoint programme includes four documentary films by Honkasalo. Among them is the Trilogy of the Sacred and the Satanic, which includes the documentaries Mysterion, Tanjuska and the 7 Devils, and Atman. Her Jussi-winning documentary The 3 Rooms of Melancholia, about the Chechen War from children’s perspective, is also included in DocPoint’s retrospective.
